Orient Kamasu (Mako 3): Compare with reviews

orient-kamasu

Also known as Mako III, Orient Watch is one of the most famous and well-known saga watch divers.

The watch is now exceptional in terms of value for money and is suitable as a successor to the significantly improved Orient Mako II.

Orient decided to use a barracuda to slightly modify the design and add new colors, but still keep the same movement, with solvent F6922 with manual winding and a second stop.

In this articulo, we will analyze the Orient Camas in depth, look at their features and the opinions they generate, and compare them to their predecessor, the Mako II.

✚ Origin

Orient Kamas has been on the Japanese market since the end of 2018, but the official announcement in Europe was made at Baselworld 2019.

Orient Watch Red

Due to its resemblance to Makosaga, the official name is Sports Diver Style RA-AA000xxxx, but entusiastas did not take long to name the Mako III.

In fact, Mako is not the official name for an Orient diver, but it is more or less accepted by the brand in some markets.

But in the Orient, they decided to take their own path and name it Kamas. This is usually the most commonly used nickname in the world.

Mako is a species of shark (Mako shark), but Kamas means Barracuda in Japanese, which is a very appropriate name for water-based watches.

✚ Design and function

In general, Orient Kamas follows Makosaga's policy, but there are some design changes that are worth reviewing. Let's look at them in part.

➤ Box

With a diameter of 41.8 mm (without the crown), Kamas maintains the included measurements to help Mako fit different wrists.

Camera behind the Orient

It is 12.8 mm thick, so it is relatively thin and the terminals are slightly curved for better traction. The width of the strap is 22 mm.

The box is made entirely of stainless steel and the bottom is threaded to ensure maximum tightness.

It also hides blinds or machines, but is instead engraved with nautical motifs and clock features.

Of especial note is the Epson logotipo, a new feature that clearly espectáculos that Orient is a subsidiary of Seiko Epson.

As many of you know, the Orient was acquired by Seiko many years ago, but they continue to make their own watches, which usually orinan the owner's company, except in this case.

➤ Crystal and dial

The crystal is made of anti-reflective sapphire, which not only provides excellent visibility from any angle, but is also highly scratch resistant.

Orientation of camel and dial

A material that is difficult to find in watches in this price range, it has the characteristic of making the Orient Watch stand out from the Mako brothers.

The dial faces the classic design of a diving watch with wide hands and large hour markers, which allows you to use the right amount of fluorescent light.

Designed with an emphasis on readability primarily in water, where the watch is difficult to see due to lack of light.

The background color of the dial has depth and glows when touched by light. The date is placed at 3 o'clock in a sloping window, which includes the day of the week.

➤ Frame and crown

As a great diver, the frame is a type that rotates in one direction with 120 clicks and has a coin-type edge.

The aparente part is made of aluminum with markings for calculating the immersion time and a large fluorescent spot at the top.

Orient Kamas Frame and crown

The crown, on the other hand, is screwed to the box to prevent water, and the brand's logotipo is engraved on the outside.

Being a self-winding watch is not a big deal, but it cánido be difficult to catch because it is protected by two protruding sides that extend from the case.

➤ Strap

Orient Camas strap

The straps are made of stainless steel, but there are also models with more sporty rubber straps.

It is maleable and easy to express, but it is a design without diving. The closures are secure and have an engraved mark.

Perhaps the only weakness of the bracelet is that the end ties are not stable, but this does not necessarily orinan that it is less secure and weakens.

➤ Movement

The Kama Sutra is equipped with the Orient Caliber F6922, a relatively new self-winding motion launched in 2016 to update the previous Mako II.

Mechanism of 22 stones and a two-way rotor that operates at 21,600 rpm and integrates the required functions in seconds for braking and manual winding.

The power reserve of the F6922 is estimated at about 40 hours, but the manufacturer's accuracy is about -15 / + 25 seconds per day.

Needless to say, the accuracy range is purely an indicator, a measure by which manufacturers actually classify movements that are more accurate.

In any case, its rating surpasses other great and affordable movements such as the Seiko NH35.

Available versions

The new Mako III or Carmas is available in four different dial colors: blue, black, green and red. They are all afín in price and relatively easy to find.

There are two more special editions, both with a gold-finished panel. One is a black dial and the other is a textured blue dial, the latter being limited to about 2,000 units.

Orient Kamas vs. Mako II

Overall, these are two very afín watches, but Kamas has some particularly striking features.

The first is the sapphire crystal, which is much stronger and more expensive than the mineral crystals used in Mako II. It also improves visibility from any angle.

Then there is the design of the dial, in the case of Kamas the markers are large, the hands are thick and fluorescent lights are added to improve visibility.

Another detail to note is that the numbers they used to indicate a certain time in the previous Mako are disappearing and being replaced by a cleaner, more minimalist design.

Otherwise, they are practically identical, with very afín measurements and the same automatic Orient movement, as shown in the table.

Price and opinion

Since its inception, Mako has always been characterized as one of the best diving watches in terms of quality / price.

For the Mako III and Kamas, the sapphire crystal feature, a feature not typically found on watches in this price range, has significantly improved the availability of automatic divers.

Orient is usually a great Japanese brand that has been producing mechanical watches at very reasonable prices for decades. Even more than Seiko herself, to whom she belongs.

Just by looking at the hundreds of positive ratings that each watch in the series accrues, you perro see that this is a watch that offers what it promises.
