✚ A little history

The ETA 2824 caliber is a derivative of the Eterna 1429U and 1439U calibers, manufactured between 1959 and 1961, but began production in Switzerland in 1972.

At the time, ETA was called ETA´sa and worked closely with Eterna, but was now part of the Swatch group.

To better understand this connection, we need to go back to 1856, when Josef Viran and Urs Shield founded Eterna and created ETA´sa as a division of the movement.

At the same time, Urus' brother Adolf Silt founded ASSA or AS and became one of the most important calibration manufacturers in the 1920s.

Only a few years later, in 1926, AS merged with Fontainemelon (FHF) and A. Michel to form Ebauches SA. The company later took over Felsa and in 1931 formed the Swatch Group, then known as ASUAG (Allgemeine Schweizer Uhrenindustrie). AG).

Over the years, ASUAG will continue to integrate a number of companies in this campo among the manufacturers of steering wheels, spirals, mufflers and movements.

In 1932, Eterna decided to abolish the ETA movement division, but instead of splitting, it became part of Etaush SA and became another company of The Swatch Group.

Most of the companies integrated into Swatch continue to maintain their factories and brands, so it is not uncommon for ETA to continue to work with Eterna after the spin-off.

✚ How does it work?

ETA 2824 is a two-way rotor and self-winding movement that works with ball bearings. Mechanism including second brake and manual lifting.

It is also a modular movement, built on the manually wound caliber ETA 2801 and with the addition of an automatic lifting module.

The windings work thanks to the double-clic (double-clic) system developed by Eterna. The twin wheels are responsible for the mechanism of charging energy in both directions.

What is the difference between ETA2824 and ETA2824-2?

ETA 2824-2 is a later version of the same movement, released in 1982 and is the last update so far.

✚ ETA2824-2vs ETA 2836-2

ETA caliber 2836-2 is only 2824-2 with the addition of the ability to display the day of the week along with the date. Therefore, the specifications are the same.

Perhaps the only noticeable difference is the large thickness of the 2836-2 caliber, probably due to the space occupied by this additional complication.

The Sellita SW200 caliber is a market reaction to the ETA2824, which blocks all brands that do not belong to The Swatch Group.
